Description

Lithuanian Radiation Protection Society (LRSD) was founded on April 26, 2001.

The main objective of the LRSD is collection and dissemination of knowledge and experience in the field of protection of humans and environment from the hazardous influence of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. For achievement of this objective the LRSD has the following tasks:

  • co-operation with Lithuanian institutions dealing with radiation protection and use of sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation,
  • initiation of new concepts of radiation protection and discussions on the ones, suggested by international and national organizations,
  • co-operation with international organizations and societies, national radiation protection and other similar organizations,
  • organization of meetings and conferences for discussion of important theoretical and practical problems of radiation protection,
  • public information about radiation protection problems, activities of the LRPS, promotion of its objective and tasks,
  • official statements on particular problems of radiation protection, if necessary,
  • publications.

Regular Members of the LRSD are radiation protection professionals with appropriate university education working in the field of protection of humans and environment from hazardous influence of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Associate (honorable) membership is also possible. Recently the LRSD consists of 63 members: regulators, research workers, radiation protection officers, radiation workers, radiologists.
