Description

German- Swiss Association for Radiation Protection
- Deutsch-schweizerischer Fachverband für Strahlenschutz e.V -

The Fachverband für Strahlenschutz e.V. (FS) is an association of radiation protection experts and people involved in practical radiation protection mainly from Germany and Switzerland and of individual scientists from other countries in Europe.

The association has set itself the purpose of promoting radiation protection both as a science and as a profession. Care for and promote the protection against the harmful effects of ionising and non-ionising radiation in the interest of the general public and public health as a task of science and research is the intention of the Fachverband.

Presently the Fachverband has more than 1400 individual members and 30 corporate members. The members are working for large research centres, universities, government research institutes, authorities, industry, engineering offices, nuclear power plants, technical colleges, in medical profession etc.

On its annual scientific meetings, the FS outlines and publishes the respective state of research and practice in all areas of radiation protection. In addition, the FS hosts several seminars and education courses.

The most important platform for the exchange of experience and information within the association are the expert groups, of which there are presently 14:

  • Operational radiation protection
  • Regulations
  • Radiation biology and radiation effects
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Radioactive residues of uranium mining
  • Detection limits
  • Training and education
  • Dosimetry of external radiation
  • Non-ionising radiation
  • Waste management
  • Incorporation monitoring
  • Transport
  • Emergency management

One of our main task is the exchange of experiences on a national and an international basis which will be done by conferences, meetings, workshops, documented in over one hundred publications and last but not least by our journal “StrahlenschutzPRAXIS”. This quarterly journal which has been published since the beginning of 1995 and has a circulation of about 3000 copies, focuses on one major topic per issue, informing readers at the same time about the latest developments in worlwide radiation protection. Also our website is an often used tool for information. At www.fs.fzk.de one can find all current information about the activities and structure of the Fachverband as well as about forthcoming events, new FS- and other publications. The site also offers a number of different links to the web sites of authorities, national and international societies and associations and scientific institutions around the world which are concerned with radiation protection.
