Description

ASSOCIAZIONE ITALIANA DI RADIOPROTEZIONE (AIRP)

The Italian Radiation Protection Association (AIRP) was founded in 1958, with the aim of enhancing the specialist role of scientists and technicians in the field of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

AIRP is affiliated to the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) and counts more than 1000 Members, including international Members.
AIRP has fully accepted and integrated the IRPA Code of Ethics into its practice .

AIRP, multidisciplinary in nature, effectively gathers radiation experts, health physicists and many other professionals and specialist profiles in the field of radiation protection, such as occupational physicians, nuclear engineers, biologists, pathologists, occupational hygienists, chemists, radiochemists, toxicologists, medical experts, lawyers and technical experts.

AIRP membership is selective and limited to professionals with an acknowledged position in -and commitment to- research, education, monitoring and other activities related to radiation protection.
AIRP organizes one yearly National Congress and a number of meetings, workshops and  round tables on specific subjects all year long.

In 1983, AIRP established the "Carlo Polvani Radiation Protection  School" within the Alessandro Volta Center for Scientific Culture in  Como. In 2007 the School was transferred to the new location in Pisa, Certosa di Calci. The School’s role is to foster studies and research in the radiation protection field. To date, the School has held 43 advanced and highly specialized courses as well as seminars on subjects at international level.

AIRP is among the founding promoters of International Radiation  Protection Association (IRPA) and organized the first IRPA Congress,  1966 in Roma.

The Executive Board of AIRP is elected for a three-year term.
The present (2010 - 2012) board is composed of:
